MSI CR420 Notebook Review
The MSI CR420 is a 14″ laptop sporting one of the latest Intel Core Processors, the Core i3. The very first impression the user would get its eye catching cross-hatch design that stand outs like a classic corporate executive.
Built for the occasional-gamer, the CR420 is just as loaded as its sister- the CX420 except for the lack of a discrete graphics card. this 14-inch notebook can stream your favorite online content to an HDTV near you. Where it usually takes an Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processor for support plus a standalone adapter box connected to your TV with an HDMI cable, the CR420 offers all this and more.
The laptop’s body is made up of scratch resistant enamel and having good strength.Under the glossy skin, the MSI CR420 is loaded with enough arsenals to tackle the everyday computing needs.The lid and the palm rest area are fully coated with scratch resistant CFP and are equipped with Chiclets keyboard and a touch pad. The Cross hatch CFP patterns provide a scratch resistant protection to the MSI CX420 and CR420 Classic Series Notebook which even gives a radiant gloss to it.The 45-degree angle is perfect with wedge design techniques which make it more portable.
The keyboard possesses chicklet styled keys providing ample comfort while typing and so does the cross hatched touchpad for a slicker and enjoyable mouse movements, the Backspace and Enter key a bit small. It doesn’t feel natural to type with it on the first go but eventually you’ll get the hang of it, and you need not fear of touching other keys by accident.The seamless touch pad also uses the Cross Hatch CFP patterning which gives user more benefit.
The CR420 has multiple options to connect other peripherals to give it a complete SOHO definition. These include the HDMI port, 3 USB 2.0 ports, RJ-45 apart from the usual built-in 10/100 Ethernet socket and a multimedia card reader. The MSI CR420 has also built-in components for wireless connectivity like Bluetooth and 802.11 b/g/n.
That’s not all. There’s still a 1.3MP webcam, Bluetooth and your choice of hard drive. Be it humble 250, larger 320 or massive 500GB. The 6-cell Li-ion battery is also impressive. In case you’re all about energy efficiency, the CR420 offers five power management levels to preserve battery life.
Our CR420 came with a 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate (typically it’s Windows 7 Home Premium). In addition to the battery power backup, the CR420 will also have built in the ECO Engine energy saving technology providing the consumer with 5 power management options namely – Movie, Gaming, Presentation, Office and Turbo Battery. These modes control various power consuming peripherals like the display, processor by supplying optimum power as per the selected mode and extended the battery usage.
Overall, the MSI CR420 performs really well for a typical 14” casual laptop given its affordable Php32k price tag. The Core i3 adequate for most of your needs but if you are likely to do a lot of gaming with it, I would suggest going with the CX420 instead.
